Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) that is a sugar acid with antioxidant properties and appears as white to light-yellow crystals or powder. Soluble in water, ascorbic acid was also called hexuronic acid by some researchers, during its discovery in the 1920s. Vitamin C is the common name for the Lenantiomer of ascorbic acid and this name is derived from the alpha privative a- (meaning no) and scorbuticus (scurvy), the disease caused by a deficiency of vitamin C.
